Wingecarribee Seniors Get Ready for Action! ‘Reach Beyond’ as NSW Seniors Festival kicks off

6 March, 2024Posted in: Community, Events

It’s the largest festival of its kind in the southern hemisphere, and Wingecarribee Shire Council is proud to host a jam-packed schedule of events, as part of NSW Seniors Festival, which runs from 11 – 24 March 2024.

The Festival celebrates the role and contribution of our seniors to our local communities.

This year’s theme is ‘Reach Beyond’ and that’s exactly what our shire’s program of events is encouraging our older population to do. There are almost 100 different events across the two-week Festival, kicking off on Monday 11 March, 2024.

The Festival commences with a ‘Seniors Expo’ at Bowral Memorial Hall, from 9am-12pm, with our very own Wingecarribee Australia Day Ambassador Robina Beard opening the event. Expo attendees will have the chance to meet and greet a range of services available in our Shire and will also be the first to get their hands on the 2024 Seniors Directory.

From the expo to  Mystery Bus Tours, DIY Eco Friendly products courses, Scam Awareness and Digital Training workshops – Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Community Development Officer, Meredith Lea says there really is something for everyone, and welcomes seniors to come along, take part and meet new friends.

“We would love all our seniors to participate in this wonderful opportunity to keep learning and challenging themselves, meet like-minded people and reach beyond their own capabilities,” said Meredith.

“Many of these events are free of charge, so come along on your own, or get a group together, to explore the many different areas of interest on offer.”

Each year Council coordinates our local Seniors Festival program of events, that focuses on keeping our older population healthy, active and social. The program features a range of both community and Council-led events.

While some events don’t require bookings, others have limited numbers, so get in early and book your tickets to join in the fun.
