Next week is the Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) Right to Know Week (RTW 2023) and Wingecarribee Shire Council is proud to be a champion of the cause through the IPC RTK 2023 Champion Program. Consistent with our commitment to transparency, this global campaign recognises the right of citizens to access government information.
From 25 September to 1 October 2023, RTW 2023 initiatives will promote open, transparent government. In NSW, this important public right is legislated through the Government Information (Public Access) Act (GIPA Act).
This year’s theme is ‘The importance of the online space for access to information’. As WSC strives to foster an informed and engaged local community in the digital age, is vital that we utilise rapidly evolving technologies effectively to capture, store and share records with members of the public.
Wingecarribee Shire Council is investing in making information readily available to our community, to support informed participation and decision-making.
We continue to work toward improved functionality and security of our digital platforms and service delivery so that the community can readily engage with us, access the services they are seeking and connect with assistance when required.
“This Right to Know Week, we are supporting our team to refresh their knowledge of the GIPA Act and information access obligations as public sector staff,” says WSC General Manager Lisa Miscamble. “Harnessing technology well for the benefit of our community and adopting new cultural and process changes will have a profound impact on the operation of the information access pathway.”
