Veteran debaters primed for Seniors Week

Wingecarribee Shire Council will officially kick off its activities for Seniors Week this Sunday 18 March but the highlight for the Mayor doesn’t take place until Tuesday evening when Council hosts the 14th annual Great Debate in Council’s Moss Vale Theatrette at 7.00pm.

This now traditional event pits the Shire’s more seasoned citizens against some of the region’s sharpest Gen-Y minds.

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor, Councillor Ken Halstead said the evening was always a highlight of Seniors Week.

“We’ve got another great line-up of activities planned for our seniors this year but the Grey Vs Youth debate always promises to be entertaining.

“The students from Chevalier College and Bowral High School may look pretty sharp on paper but my money is on 97 year old veteran debater Lily Hepher to pip them at the post.

“Either way, if last year is anything to go by, I reckon the decision this year could well go down to the wire,” he said.

Other Council sponsored events include the Young at Heart Film Festival also on Tuesday 20 March and the Berrima barbeque and bushwalk on Friday 23 March.
