Saturday July 15 promises a night of fun, laughter and spotting familiar local faces among the seafaring marauders on stage at Bowral Memorial Hall, as Highlands Theatre Group presents The Pirates of Penzance. The opening night of this highly anticipated show is not to be missed and we’re excited to share that some Council staff will be among an all-local cast.

One of the first of many community groups to book what is now the Southern Highlands’ premier performance space for their production, Highlands Theatre Group has put heart and soul into their stage debut at the impressive new venue. “What a wonderful way to launch this production, on the back of the big unveiling of a state-of-the art new performance venue for our Shire.” Production Director, Steve Cheers said.

Ticket holders can expect to be awed by a magical experience with sets and costumes created to a very high standard, dynamic choreography and passionate local talent will immerse you in the enchanting world of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Rigorous rehearsals over several months have called for dedication outside of work hours for the majority of actors who are all contributing members of our local community. ”With the recent reveal of the new Bowral Memorial Hall fresh in everyone’s minds, there’s such a great sense of camaraderie among the cast,”  says one Council staff member recruited to the cast as a pirate.

“I’m sure the idea of stepping into the spotlight on that stage has been a great motivator for everyone to make it along to every rehearsal after work.” Said Steve

Don’t miss this fun production, highlighting the incredible talent and creativity we have here in Wingecarribee, and the value of arts and culture for connecting community members and fostering a sense of unity.

“Giving an iconic Bowral landmark back to its community as a cultural hub and a place for connecting is what the community-led re-design and refurbishment of Bowral Memorial Hall has been all about,” says Council Administrator Mr Viv May.
