Residents with children or involved in the childcare industry have until the end of April to provide feedback on the ‘philosophy’ currently being exhibited by Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Children’s Services – inclusive of Family Day Care and Mittagong After School Care and Vacation Care

Children’s Services Coordinator, Melissa Lefterys said, “The recently introduced Education and Care Services National Regulations require a statement of philosophy which guides all aspects of our service operations.

“Staff from Wingecarribee Family Day Care, Mittagong After School Care and Wingecarribee Vacation Care have been involved in creating the concept and we would now love to hear what the community thinks about our ideas.”

Excerpt from the draft Children’s Service Philosophy:

“Through the process of Continuing Improvement Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Children’s Services strives to provide a professional and respectful culture in its children’s services, which embraces and acknowledges the uniqueness of each family and each child within our service.

Quality in Children’s Services encompasses an environment that meets the needs of the child, parent, staff, educators and the community whilst recognizing the uniqueness of all involved. It takes a community to raise a child and a shared vision of all stakeholders to provide a service which is safe and enriching for children to grow and develop to their individual potential.

Our service, educators and staff acknowledge and recognise that the childhood years are very special and integral in shaping who we are, how we feel and what we become. Positive self esteem, high self worth and a strong sense of identity enables each of us to cope with life’s challenges and to be active and productive contributors in our community.”
