Back with a bang, our Fun ‘Da’ Mental youth panel in conjunction with Wingecarribee Shire Council have come up with some great free activities to keep your kids and teens busy these July school holidays, from Monday 3rd July 2023 to Friday 14th July 2023.

Young people who are into skateboarding or wanting to learn more about it will get so much out of our skate beginner class and mentoring skills session with professional skater Ben Currie. Run by Totem Collective, one of the largest and long running skate event companies in Australia, the experience wraps-up with a Skate and Scooter JAM. Loads of prize giveaways will be up for grabs at this event, which is suited for ages 6 to 25 years.

Among the other amazing free holiday activities on offer across our Shire are Zero Central Circus workshops in Mittagong and Robertson, and learning to meditate while moving with Tai Chi at Creative Space.

For those with more artistic interests, there are workshops in pottery, puppet-making, creative writing, bookbinding, marbled paper-making, and creative weaving with First Nations artist Jodie Munday.

Made possible by grant funding under the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) Youth Opportunities Program, the activities our young panel came up with are all about strengthening community connections and a sense of belonging.

Council’s Community Development Coordinator, Corinne Buxton said ”These youth-led opportunities saw our young people overcome barriers to getting involved with their communities, helping them to feel a greater sense of belonging. It’s wonderful to see our young people feeling empowered when their ideas and opinions are respected, considered and acted upon. We hope this program has inspired them to seek further opportunities to participate and stay engaged with their community.”

Though these activities represent the last of the grant funding secured under the DCJ scheme, Council will continue to collaborate with the youth of our Shire to pursue funding opportunities toward initiatives outlined in our Youth Strategy and Action Plan 2016-2026.

Spots are limited so be quick to book.  For details including booking information please head to the Youth section of the Wingecarribee Shire Council, https://www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/community/youth#section-1
