The Regional Illegal Dumping Squad is currently investigating suspected asbestos roof sheeting which was dumped over the Easter long weekend at a number of locations on Wombeyan Caves Road High Range, Greenhills Road Berrima and at the corner of the Old Hume Highway and Wombeyan Caves Road Welby.

A total of 10 cubic metres has been dumped at eight locations and appears to have been dumped by someone driving a small truck, utility or a car towing a trailer.

Penalties for these offences include on-the-spot fines of up to $5,000 and magistrates can issue penalties of up to $5,000,000 for corporations and $1,000,000 and/or 7 years imprisonment for individuals.

Any person with information in relation to these incidents is encouraged to phone the pollution hotline on 131555 or contact the RID Squad directly on 02 4868 0893.

The RID squad patrols the area for illegal dumping and illegal land filling and are sponsored by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water, the Sydney Catchment Authority, Shoalhaven City Council, Wingecarribee and Eurobodalla Shire Councils.

“We’ll find you, we’ll fine you and you’ll clean it up” is the slogan for the RID squad and they intend coming down hard on offenders.
