Wingecarribee Shire Council has announced a range of pool entry subsidies for residents during construction of the new multi-million dollar Indoor Aquatic Centre.

Schools who usually book swimming lessons and carnivals at the Moss Vale pool have been invited to claim additional costs incurred whilst residents from Moss Vale, Sutton Forest and New Berrima will be able to swim at the Bundanoon, Bowral or Mittagong pools for free.

The subsidies were recommended in a report by staff to Council last week and endorsed to come into effect this week.

Aquatic Centre Working Group Chair, Councillor John Uliana said, “We wanted to support residents of the Moss Vale area, including Sutton Forest and New Berrima, during summer and assist in offsetting additional travel costs incurred. We looked at many options, and the simplest and fairest option was to offer free entry.

“The free entry subsidies will appeal to people who would usually have travelled in their own vehicles as well as those who would have walked or used public transport. Free entry will encourage people to continue swimming at our other facilities,” said Councillor Uliana.

To gain free entry to a Council pool, residents from Moss Vale, Sutton Forest and New Berrima must show proof of address. This can include a licence, student card, bus pass, current utility bill or other form of identification.

A review of transport options for Moss Vale residents showed that while buses ran Monday to Friday and ceased around midday on Saturday, that a number of train services were also available at a similar price to pool entry. Family fare deals and off-peak rates (weekend and after 9am weekdays) would apply to many residents www.cityrail.info/tickets/which/mytrain
