Wingecarribee Shire Mayor Duncan Gair has today launched a Mayoral Relief Fund to assist residents impacted by the Green Wattle Creek Fire.

The fire has caused significant damage to the Shire’s northern communities of Balmoral and Buxton.

“Although emergency services teams are still onsite counting the losses, we’re bracing for the reality that dozens of structures may be lost,” the Mayor said.

“It’s going to take a long time to recovery from this disaster and I know a lot of people want to assist those residents impacted and help them return to some semblance of normality as soon as possible.

“To help the residents of Balmoral and Buxton that have been affected by the bush fire Council has set up a Mayoral Relief Fund.”

Donations can be made online through a dedicated account organised via the National Australia Bank (NAB) at:

Account name:         MAYORAL RELIEF FUND

BSB:                         082-135

Account number:     20 118 3392

Donations can also be made in person at any branch of the NAB with the abovementioned details or in person at Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Customer Service Centre located in the Moss Vale Civic Centre.

Requests for donations will NOT be undertaken via door-knocking.

“On behalf of my fellow Councillors and all the staff of Council I would like to extend a huge thank you to all our firefighters and everyone helping with the ongoing efforts to protect our community,” the Mayor added.

“Now is the time to look after each other and a donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated.”

Wingecarribee Shire Council has opened the account with a donation of $20,000.
