Wingecarribee Shire Council wishes to advise that the Moss Vale Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) will be closed Monday 25 July due to a fire within the green waste disposal area.

The fire was reported in the early hours of the morning with crews form Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service attending to control the flames.

The fire was quickly contained to the green waste area and at no stage was there any risk to surrounding buildings or facilities.

At this stage the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

While the fire has been safely brought under control, persistent thick smoke fanned by strong winds will likely remain for much of the day.  Fire crews will remain on site for the day to monitor the situation.

Council reiterates that while the smoke is from green waste material only, nearby residents with respiratory conditions are advised to close any windows until the smoke clears.

To allow fire crews and Council staff to safely clean up the area, a decision has been made to close the entire RRC facility for the day.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority has been advised of the incident and will monitor the situation.

Gates will reopen as per normal 7.30am Tuesday 26 July 2016 unless otherwise advised.

Normal residential bin collection services remain unaffected.

Council reminds nearby residents that due to the high volume of water used to extinguish the flames, some immediate premises may experience temporary incidents of dirty water until pressure normalises.

Council apologies for any inconvenience.

Council’s Resource Recovery Centre is located at 177 Berrima Road, Moss Vale.
