At the Council meeting of 26 April 2017, Wingecarribee Shire Councillors unanimously voted to publicly exhibit a collection of draft community planning and budgeting documents.

Included in these documents is Council’s Draft Delivery Program 2017-21 and Operational Plan 2017/18.

This document details Council’s long-term plans and priorities and immediate program of works.

Located within the early pages of this document is a proposal to implement one free clean up per year for the Shire’s residents who qualify for a pensioner rebate on their Council rates.

At present Council offers two kerbside collection services each year to all residents on a book and pay arrangement.  The current cost of this twice yearly service is $77 per collection.

Council estimates that should the new service be supported, approximately 3,700 pensioners would be able to take advantage of the program.

To cover the costs of this ‘free’ collection service, Council is proposing an additional 4.0 per cent across the board increase in Domestic Waste Charges on top of the proposed 2.5 per cent rise.  For the average household using an 80 litre domestic waste service, this would equate to an additional $26.65 per year.

If the free clean up service does not progress, then only the 2.5 per cent rise for the existing domestic waste management services would be implemented.  This would cost the average household an additional $10 each year.

Council is now seeking the community’s feedback on the proposal to provide the ‘free’ collection service to pensioners.
