The State Government’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Disaster Welfare Assistance Point, presently set up in Council’s Civic Centre foyer, will be extended until Friday 17 January 2020.

Disaster Welfare Services staff will be joined by members of the Australian Red Cross who will also continue to provide counselling and grief assistance services during this period.

In addition, an outreach Disaster Welfare Assistance Point will be stationed at the Balmoral Community Hall, located on the corner of Wilson Drive and Hall Road in Balmoral, on Wednesday 15 January 2020 from 10am to 3pm.

A further OEM team will operate from the Wingello Mechanics Institute Hall, located at 65 Railway Parade in Wingello, on Friday 17 January 2020 from 10am to 3pm.

The OEM leads, coordinates and develops capability in the emergency management sector and conducts state-wide welfare and recovery operations during times of disaster.

The primary focus for their Highlands visit will be to complete applications for people who may be eligible for ‘natural disaster’ payment.  Criteria for eligibility are limited to people who have lost their home, are uninsured or on a low income.

No appointments are necessary for any of the designated Disaster Welfare Assistance Points.
