Community alert for temporary closure of Old South Road for next stage of restoration work

22 February, 2024

Old South Road users between Range Road in Mittagong and Merrigang Street, Bowral are encouraged to plan ahead for an alternative travel route from next week, with remediation work starting on Wednesday 28 February, and to continue for approximately three weeks, weather depending. During this time, access to the road will be for residents and emergency services only.

Wingecarribee Shire Council and its contractors, Stefanutti Constructions, have been investigating a section of the road that deteriorated soon after the completion of Stage 1 and 2 works of the road, when it was re-opened to traffic on 22 December 2023.

The contractors have so far been undertaking short term measures to minimise current commuter risks.

The upcoming road closure is required to satisfactorily repair the affected section of road for the longer term.

Stage 3 works of the project, renewal of the road northwards of Aylmerton Road, is currently under construction and forecast for completion by the end of May 2024.

Council apologises for any inconvenience during this upcoming road closure. Together with the NSW and Federal Governments, we are seeking to successfully complete this major joint road construction project for the community as soon as possible.
