Bridge construction & temp closure of Kirkland Road

15 April, 2016

Wingecarribee Shire Council wishes to advise that as of Monday 2 May 2016, works are scheduled to commence on the replacement of the Kirkland Road Bridge in East Kangaloon.

Located near the intersection of Kangaloon Road in East Kangaloon, the works will involve the demolition of the existing timber bridge, minor earth works to enable the installation of concrete piers and the construction of a new concrete bridge.

New signage, line marking and guardrails will also be installed.  Trimming of immediate vegetation and soil protection to the adjacent creek bank will also be undertaken.

Kirkland Road will be closed for the duration of the works with detours to be put into place.  Signage will be erected advising motorists of the changes.

Nearby residents, businesses and the local school have all been informed of the temporary closure.

The replacement project has been made possible via a $189,000 funding grant obtained under the Australian Federal Government’s regional Bridges Renewal Programme. This programme also enabled the replacement of Robertson’s Caalong Street bridge in 2015.

At a cost of approximately $430,000, the Kirkland Road bridge replacement project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2016.

Road users are cautioned to follow the changed traffic conditions, exercise care when traveling through the work zones and be aware of heavy machinery within the work areas.

Council thanks motorists in advance for their cooperation and apologises for any delays or inconvenience.
