On-street parking around Bowral Hospital is set to be improved following the implementation of several traffic changes immediately surrounding the hospital.

From early May, Wingecarribee Shire Council will convert Ascot Road between Sheffield Road and Mona Road to one-way traffic. At the same time Mona Road between Ascot Road and Bowral Street will also be transferred to one-way movement.

This decision follows a recommendation by the Local Traffic Committee in December 2020. Changes will result in an increase of 29 additional on-street car spaces and five motorbike spaces.

While the changes will come into effect on 7 May 2021, electronic variable message boards will be in place around the hospital from mid-April alerting motorists and residents of the pending changes.

Council’s Acting Deputy General Manager Operations, Finance and Risk, Mr Richard Mooney said the changes were designed to ease parking pressure in and around the hospital.

“We know that parking around Bowral Hospital continues to be a concern for patients, visitors and residents,” he said.

“This re-configuration is a step towards easing current congestion experienced around the hospital and providing more convenient access for patients, visitors and staff.

“We thank residents and motorists for their patience while we undertake these changes.”

Weather permitting line-marking changes and the erection of new signage will be completed by the week ending 9 May 2021.

The changes complement $1.24 million in recent improvements undertaken by Council to the adjacent Glebe Park precinct which included the construction of new kerbing and guttering, footpaths, road widening, line-marking and the formalisation of existing car spots.
