Council to enclose Caalong Street stormwater channel

12 January, 2012

Wingecarribee Shire Council has this week started work on enclosing an open stormwater channel adjacent to the Robertson Primary School.

The work is being undertaken on the southern section of Caalong Street in Robertson and will assist in diverting future stormwater flows and allow for a safer ‘drop-off’ point for children.

Work will involve installing drainage pipework and enclosing the subsequent stormwater channel.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed in February with the bulk of the heavy work being completed prior to the commencement of the new school term.

On the resumption of school parents are encouraged to use Yarrunga Street or the pedestrian crossing opposite the school on the Illawarra Highway to collect their children.

Vehicular access and parking will be limited around the construction area.

Road users are cautioned to follow the changed traffic conditions, exercise care when traveling through the work zones and be aware of heavy machinery within the work areas.

Parents are also reminded to educate their children to the dangers of play around construction sites.

Council apologises for any delays or inconvenience.

The $230,000 project will be funded from Council’s Stormwater Drainage Levy and Section 94 Developer contributions.
