Construction start at Bowral Memorial Hall

16 June, 2021

Wingecarribee Shire Council wishes to advise that construction activities will commence at the Bowral Memorial Hall in Bendooley Street from Wednesday 16 June 2021.

The work will involve refurbishing the heritage building including converting the existing hall space into a venue catering for unamplified music performances.

Key construction activities include the installation of a new roof and lifts, upgrading the kitchen and bathroom facilities and providing access for all abilities.  Other additions include the installation of a new air conditioning system, sound and lighting equipment and protecting and rejuvenating the building’s heritage façade.

To enable these construction activities some heavy machinery including trucks, cranes and trade vehicles will require direct access to the site located between 16 – 24 Bendooley Street in Bowral.  As of consequence, during construction hours, the hall’s immediate street frontage on Bendooley Street will be restricted to Construction Zone Parking only.

While contractors will endeavor to minimise any inconvenience, advance warning of temporary parking changes may at times be limited.

Bendooley Street will remain open to through traffic throughout the project construction however where possible motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Immediate pedestrian access to the adjacent Bowral Library and Highlands Community Centre in Stafford Cottage will also be impacted with access to be moved to the northern side of the building.

Council thanks immediate businesses, motorists and pedestrians in advance for their cooperation and apologise for any disruption.

The $6.6 million refurbishment of Bowral Memorial Hall was endorsed by Council’s Interim Administrator at an Extraordinary Meeting held on Thursday 20 May 2021.  Council has committed $3.8 million in monies towards the refurbishment project with a further $2.8 million in grant monies being secured from the Australian Government.

The refurbishment project will be undertaken by Belmadar Pty Ltd with works anticipated to be completed by 31 July 2022.
