Southern Highlands Destination Plan on exhibition
Wingecarribee Shire Council is seeking comment from the community after Councillors endorsed the public exhibition of the Draft Southern Highlands Destination Plan 2020-2030.
The draft plan provides a blueprint to achieve the 2031 vision for the Wingecarribee economy over the next 10 years.
Council’s Coordinator Economic Development, Jan Campbell said that it is common practice for local government areas to have separate strategies for tourism and economic development.
“Tourism like other industry sectors, contributes to a vibrant and growing economy so it is logical to combine economic development and tourism into a single Destination Plan.”
“A whole of destination approach positions the Southern Highlands as an attractive investment destination; a place to live, work, learn, play and visit.”
Ms Campbell said that a sustainable economy can be built on the pillars of People, Place, Prosperity and Partnership.
“Business associations and industry representatives agree that Council has a key role to play in local economic development,” Ms Campbell added. “Addressing economic, social, environmental, cultural, civic leadership and land use issues in an integrated manner.”

The Draft Southern Highlands Destination Plan 2020-2030 will be on exhibition for a period of 46 days with submissions and feedback to close at 4:30pm on Sunday 30 August 2020. Opportunities to have one-on-one discussions will also be available by appointment during the exhibition period.
Following the close of the exhibition period, a final Southern Highlands Destination Plan 2020-2030 including public feedback will be submitted to Council for adoption.
