RDA Illawarra and Wingecarribee Shire Council to enter into MoU
The Chairman of Regional Development Australia – Illawarra (RDAI), Mr Eddy De Gabriele, and General Manager of Wingecarribee Shire Council, Jason Gordon today announced that their respective organisations will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a ceremony to mark this significant occasion on Friday 10 August, 2012.
“From the RDAI’s perspective, the objectives of the MoU were to acknowledge the role of RDAI in the regional economy and to utilise the services of the organisation for effective consultation and decision making on projects of significance in the Wingecarribee Local Government Area,” Mr De Gabriele said.
“The MoU will acknowledge Wingecarribee Shire Council’s role is to serve its residents and the local community and in particular to identify and recommend projects that will contribute to the sustainable development of the Wingecarribee economy,” Mr Gordon added.
“The MoU will provide a streamlined and effective decision-making forum for recommendations to Council in respect to Council’s participation in prioritised economic development based projects.”
The MoU recognises the role of RDAI as the peak regional economic development organisation and that Council is committed to working with RDAI to support its processes and projects to provide effective community, business and government consultative arrangements.
The Agreement will operate for an initial period of 12 months, before review, and is underpinned by a set of guiding principles including the continued autonomous operation of the respective parties but with a stated intent to work cooperatively and collaboratively to promote the Wingecarribee Local Government Area and the Southern Highlands and Illawarra regions in general.
