Wingecarribee Shire Council is encouraging residents to put second hand first by shopping the Garage Sale Trail this weekend.

Now in its ninth year, Garage Sale Trail is the nation’s biggest weekend of garage sales and one of Australia’s biggest community events.

Council’s Waste Education and Policy Officer, Libby Guest, said Council is pleased to be involved in this grassroots national event.

“Reducing waste and bringing community together are key priorities for both Council and our community.”

“The trail provides a way to meet your neighbours and connect with the broader community whilst also de-cluttering and raising money for yourself or a local charity,” she said.

Last year’s national results showed the average household made over $300 and participants connected with close to 50 fellow community members.

“With garage names like Going on a Treasure Hunt, Our Junk, Your Trunk and Balaclava Bonanza it’s sure to be a fun weekend,” said Libby.

The Garage Sale Trail is on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October 2019.

Shoppers can map out sales they’d like to visit over the weekend for free by searching the map and creating a trail at www.garagesaletrail.com.au/wingecarribee.
