Moss Vale Aquatic centre concept plan underway
Progress on the Shire’s first indoor aquatic facility has moved a step closer with the announcement that the Indoor Aquatic Strategy Working Group will release a concept plan on the Moss Vale pool proposal within coming months.
The Working Group comprising of councillors, community members and staff from Wingecarribee Shire Council staff was formed in August 2010 to progress development on an indoor aquatic facility within the Southern Highlands.
“We see the concept plan as an important step for the community to have a say in the development of the swimming centre,” said Chairman of the Indoor Aquatic Working Group, Councillor Larry Whipper.
“On its release, the concept plan will address project issues including accessibility, transport and affordability,” he said.
Councillors endorsed the recommendation of the Working Group to cover the existing Moss Vale pool at its Council meeting of 23 March 2011.
“Encouragingly, the community members on the Working Group agree that the option to cover the existing Moss Vale swimming pool holds numerous advantages over alternate sites including greater construction access and reduced project costs.
“Importantly, this project has the potential to provide Moss Vale with a major economic shot-in-the-arm,” Clr Whipper said.
The concept plan and associated business plan is expected to be available for public comment by August 2011.
“Our residents have told us a covered pool within the Shire is a priority, and consequently we want to deliver on this expectation as soon as possible.”
