Wingecarribee Shire Council is set to reopen Mittagong Branch Library on Tuesday 6 October 2020 as coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions continue to ease across the state.

Council’s Chief Information Officer John Crawford said while the Bowral Central Library was the first open on 1 June, many people were looking forward to returning to their local branch.

“We know that our libraries play an important role in the communities they serve, and we thank our patrons for their patience and understanding as we transition back to a fully functioning library service.”

From Tuesday 6 October, up to 15 patrons will be able to visit Mittagong Branch Library at any one time.

The first hour of trade each day will be dedicated to vulnerable patrons with general access to follow.

The library will open for loans, returns and reservations.  Printing, photocopying and a limited number of PCs and seating will also be available to the community.

Mr Crawford said the reopening is in-line with NSW Public Health Safety Guidelines.

“The health and well-being of our patrons and staff remains our number one priority,” Mr Crawford stressed.  “That means we’ve increased our cleaning schedules and we’ll also continue to ask guests to use the hand sanitisers provided.”

Patrons can choose to sign in using a QR Code register or leave contact details in a voluntary register.

Mr Crawford said in addition to using these two libraries patrons could also access items via the newly introduced ‘Click and Collect’ mobile service.

“We understand that not everyone is yet comfortable returning to public spaces so our Click and Collect service provides another option for our users to access their favourite titles.

“We’re also pleased to announce that both Mittagong and Bowral Central Library will resume Saturday morning trade from 10 October.”

Moss Vale Branch Library remains closed to allow the completion of major renovation works.

Mittagong Branch Library is located on Queen Street in Mittagong.
