Learn to skate at Bundanoon Skate Park
Wingecarribee Shire Council will team up with The Totem Collective to host two skateboarding workshops on Saturday 23 January 2021.
Council’s Youth Liaison Officer Michelle Williams said the workshops catered to varying abilities.
“The first session is aimed at beginners whereas the late afternoon session is more suitable for intermediate skaters,” she said.
“The sessions will include demonstrations, skate etiquette, advice on board maintenance and tips on how to perform a range of tricks.”
Both sessions will be run by The Totem Collective, a team of skateboarding professionals who host skateboarding workshops, demonstrations and competitions across the country.
“In addition to teaching a range of skateboarding tricks, the Totem team will also chat to the skaters about positive attitudes and actions,” Michelle said. “They use skateboarding as a vehicle for the youth to build relationships within the community and help them to develop their self-esteem.”
Both the Beginner and Intermediate Workshops are free to attend but bookings are essential. Numbers will be limited as per COVID-19 restrictions and participants must be aged 5 years and up. The day will conclude with an open session for skaters of all abilities.
“The team will even provide helmets, safety gear and skateboards for participants who may be new to the sport,” Michelle added.
The day will also feature give-away merchandise from The Totem Collective, games and activities from PCYC Southern Highlands and a barbeque hosted by Highlands Youth Services.
The Beginner Workshop will start at 3.15pm on Saturday 23 January and the Intermediate Workshop from 4.15pm.
