The 2013 Southern Highlands Jobs and Careers Expo is set to take place next Tuesday 4 June at the Mittagong RSL.

The expo will showcase the region’s career and employment options to prospective job seekers and high school students.

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor, Councillor Juliet Arkwright said the expo would promote the opportunities in our region, while providing valuable information from a range of local employers and training providers.

“The expo will feature local manufacturers, industry and mining representatives, finance and media experts, hospitality staff, Defence Force personnel and recruitment officers.

“There will also be information on apprenticeships and traineeships, with educational staff from regional universities and training providers on hand to answer any questions and help participants land their dream job,” she said.

The always-popular jobs board will be on display, showing positions that are currently available and more than 35 exhibitors will be attending.

Stallholders confirmed so far include Hume Coal, The Academy of Information Technology, Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School, Dux Hot Water, Boral and the Canberra Academy of Dramatic Art.

Council will also hold an information stand on the day, promoting the wide range of career opportunities available within local government.

“Some people may not realise that Council is a significant employer in the Highlands with a full-time staff of around 350 people servicing the community’s needs.

“Council employs many locals with a wide range of skills and staff will be on hand to discuss the varied jobs and opportunities available within the Wingecarribee Shire,” Councillor Arkwright said.

Hosted by the Southern Highlands Manufacturing Cluster and supported by Wingecarribee Shire Council, the free expo will be held at the Mittagong RSL at Bessemer Street on Tuesday the 4 June from 10am to 4.30pm.
