Interim Administrator adopts Local Housing Strategy
Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Interim Administrator Viv May has adopted and commended Council’s Local Housing Strategy and Local Strategy Planning Statement during Wednesday evening’s Ordinary Meeting of Council.
Mr May said the adoption of the documents provided a long-term planning framework for future housing within the Southern Highlands.
“Together these documents provide a strategic blueprint designed to meet the future economic, housing, social and environmental needs of the community,” he said.
“It will also ensure that our housing stock continues to meet the needs of our community now and well into the future.”
Mr May said the Local Housing Strategy provided the Shire with a more cohesive and uniform approach to future residential land releases.
“These documents are critical in ensuring Council manages future growth inline with our community’s values and expectations,” he said. “At the same time, it also provides greater assurances for land owners, builders, developers and potential buyers.”
“The days of ad-hoc, piecemeal and planning applications by Notices of Motion are over.”
As part of the recommendation, the strategy considered multiple future living areas across the Shire as nominated by landowners during the exhibition period.
“This document will help avoid the issues faced during the rezoning of the Chelsea Gardens and Coomungie Urban Release Areas,” Mr May added. “The former Council would be well served to heed these documents.”
“Residents now have tangible strategies to help control how they want they want residential growth managed and a vision to ensure the unique character of the Southern Highlands is retained for generations.”
Mr May concluded by commending staff on the adoption of the Local Housing Strategy and Local Strategy Planning Statement.
“These documents have been reviewed and acknowledged by industry professionals including members of the Wingecarribee Local Planning Panel,” he said.
“Staff have delivered two very comprehensive and strategically significant documents that will provide our community with confidence for many years to come.”
