The Illawarra Academy of Sport (AIS) is calling for scholarship nominations for 2014.

The Academy, of which Council is a major supporter, is offering scholarships for young athletes – aged 13 to 17 years – in cycling, golf, hockey, the individual athlete program, lawn bowls, netball, rugby union and triathlon.

The IAS is an independent sporting organisation that provides the opportunity and encouragement for talented athletes to excel in sport.

Successful athletes will undergo an elite sport education curriculum ensuring they gain a fully-rounded education that prepares them for a successful career in sport.

Apart from undertaking specific technical and skills development sessions in their chosen sport, scholarship holders also learn about sports nutrition, injury prevention, drugs in sport as well as athlete professionalism including goal-setting, time management, media awareness and public speaking.

Scholarships run for 12 months (from October 2013).

Nominations close on the 16 August 2013.
