Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Tourism Team has won two prestigious awards at this month’s 27th annual Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards.

The team took home Best Visitor Information Services Centre and Visitor Experience Awards from the ceremony that is considered a benchmark for excellence in a wide range of tourism-related activities.

Tourism Manager Steve Rosa paid tribute to the staff of the Southern Highlands Visitor Information Centre (VIC).

“The awards are a credit to the professionalism that the entire team apply to their roles and their genuine pride and affection for the Southern Highlands,” Steve said.

“It’s also formal recognition by our peers and a reflection of the high level of customer service that they deliver to the customers that walk through the doors seven days a week.”

It’s the second time that the Mittagong based Tourism Team have taken out the honours with them also winning the same categories at the 2011 function.

“Taking home the awards this year is in some ways more satisfying than winning them last year,” Steve added. “It’s proof it wasn’t just a flash in the pan and it’s also proper recognition of the sustained high level of customer service that all the staff take to the centre every day.”

“They do a marvellous job in the continued promotion of the Southern Highlands and I can’t speak more highly of them.”

As a result of winning the awards the Southern Highlands VIC team take home a $12,500 advertising package and go into the running at the national awards to be held in Tasmania in February.
