Councillor Ken Halstead was last night re-elected as Mayor of Wingecarribee Shire by his fellow councillors for a second successive term.

“I’m extremely humbled to have been elected to represent this Shire for a second term,” Councillor Halstead said.

“Being elected as mayor is a great honour and I will do the position justice.”

“I’d like to thank my fellow councillors for their vote of confidence and I look forward to working with them in the months ahead,” he said.

Councillor Halstead said he was also looking forward to the challenges in the final year of this term of the Council.

“I’m an inclusive, consultative Mayor and will continue to be so.”

“First and foremost I want to work with the Shire’s citizens to make this region – which I believe to be the most blessed in the land – an even better place to live” he said.

“I hope to continue to represent this Shire, its natural beauty, its businesses and its citizens to the best of my abilities,” Councillor Halstead said.

Councillor Halstead also paid tribute to Councillor Duncan Gair for nominating for the position of Mayor.

“I’d like to congratulate Councillor Gair for his running for the Mayoral position and commend him on his campaign.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Councillor Whipper for his election as Deputy Mayor, likewise I thank Councillor Whipper for his support of me during the last 12 months.”

Wingecarribee Shire’s Mayoral elections are held annually.

The next Mayoral election will be held in September 2012 when the current four year term of councillors is also up for re-election.
