Councillor Duncan Gair was tonight returned as Mayor of Wingecarribee Shire by his fellow councillors.

“I’m extremely humbled to have been elected to once again represent the Shire,” Councillor Gair said.

“Wearing the Shire’s mayoral chains is a huge honour and a task I do not take lightly,” he said.

Mayor Gair said he was also looking forward to the challenges in the year ahead.

“One of my immediate areas of focus will be to improve the relationship amongst all councillors and ensure we work together towards common goals that will benefit our entire community.”

“This includes delivering on our core promises of improved services and infrastructure right across our Shire.”

“I also plan on representing and promoting this Shire, its natural beauty, its businesses and its citizens to the best of my abilities,” Councillor Gair said.

Councillor Gair also paid tribute to Councillor Whipper for nominating for the top job and former Mayor Juliet Arkwright.

“I’d like to take the opportunity to acknowledge Councillor Whipper for his running for the Mayoral position and the stewardship Councillor Arkwright has shown over the past two years,” he said. “I know they will both continue to work for the betterment of the Shire.”

Councillor Gair is the longest serving current councillor being first elected in 1995. His re-election as Mayor is his third term in the position having last served in the top job in 2010.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Councillor McLaughlin on his election as Deputy Mayor,” Councillor Gair added.

Wingecarribee Shire’s Mayoral elections are held annually in September.
