Councillor Gair returned as Mayor
Councillor Duncan Gair was tonight returned as Mayor of Wingecarribee Shire by his fellow councillors.
“I’m extremely grateful to have once again been elected to lead the Shire,” Councillor Gair said.
“The responsibility of the position is not lost on me and it’s a role I do not take lightly.”
Mayor Gair said restoring the community’s faith in their elected representatives was of paramount importance.
“My immediate focus will be to work alongside my fellow councillors and the advisors appointed by the Minister for Local Government, The Hon Shelley Hancock MP to ensure that the Performance Improvement Order served on Council is met,” he said.
“I believe this can be achieved if all councillors put their differences aside for the remainder of this term of Council and work together for the betterment of our Shire.”
Councillor Gair’s re-election as Mayor is his fifth term in the position.
Following the rescheduling of this year’s Local Government Elections to 4 September 2021, the current Mayoral term will be reduced to 12 months. The incoming Council of 2021–2024 will then elect a Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the new term.
“I would also congratulate Councillor Grahame Andrews on his election as Deputy Mayor and thank the other councillors who also nominated,” Mayor Gair added.
