Wingecarribee Shire Council is inviting residents to attend one of five upcoming Bush Fire Ready Workshops to help better prepare for this year’s warmer weather.

Run in conjunction with the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW, the free workshops will help residents identify bush fire threats and help to reduce their fire risk.

“Last year was a horror bush fire season for our region,” said Belinda Rowe, Council’s Bushfire Management Project Officer.

“October’s Hall Road fire was the worst bush fire to hit our region in years,” she said.

“And whilst it’s still winter and the weather is cool, now is the perfect time to prepare your family and property for this year’s bush fire season.”

The Bush Fire Ready Workshops will also detail how residents can tailor their own Bush Fire Survival Plan for their particular needs.

“Everyone’s Bush Fire Survival Plan will be unique to their situation,” Ms Rowe added.

“These workshops will be interactive and will enable residents to best prepare their families, homes and properties and ensure they have safe exit strategies during high bush fire risk days or if a fire is nearby.”

“The motto really is to plan for your family to be bush fire ready and plan for survival.”
