Wingecarribee Shire Council will hold a community forum this Tuesday 11 December in Moss Vale as it kicks off the first of a series of planned public forums to assist in preparing master plans for the Shire’s three major towns.

Council’s Strategic and Assets Manager Mark Pepping said the Master Plan forums had been designed to allow residents to have input into how the towns of Moss Vale, Mittagong and Bowral will look in future years.

“Whilst Council has employed an Urban Designer to assist in the preparation of the master plans, one of the most important aspects will be the participation of residents and business people in setting a vision for the future of our three main towns,” he said.

“We’ll be holding interactive forums in each of the towns and the community is encouraged to attend and provide input on how we can build on our most attractive features and move into the future with a clear vision.”

Once created, the master plans will also be used to assist in the promotion of the towns and the greater Southern Highlands.

Residents and business people will have a number of opportunities to be involved in shaping the content of master plans as well as comment on draft documents once they are placed on public exhibition including:

Primary objectives to be discussed will include continued respect, protection and building of the area’s historic links, rural character and heritage to ensure the on-going vitality, economic robustness and amenity of each centre.

“As well as being interactive, the forums have been designed to be a bit of fun,” Mr Pepping added. “We want people to creatively identify what they want to retain as well as discuss their aspirations for the future.

“If this means drawing a picture, discussing experiences elsewhere, bringing photos or writing a story then this will all assist us to understand where we are headed.”

The Moss Vale Town Centre Master Plan Community Engagement Forum will be held on Tuesday 11 December 2012 from 6pm to 9pm at the Moss Vale Golf Club, Arthur Street Moss Vale.

Numbers are strictly limited. Participants are requested to RSVP their attendance by Monday 10 December 2012 by phoning (02) 4868 0888 or via email at customer.service@wsc.nsw.gov.au

Those wishing to participate but who are unable to attend can do so via the on-line forum at www.yoursaywingecarribee.com.au/cbd.

Information gathered from the forum will be used in the preparation of associated master plan documents.

Further Master Plan forums for Mittagong and Bowral will be announced in the new year.
