Bundanoon Skate Park concept design

Works have started on the construction of the long-awaited Bundanoon Skate Park on Erith Street in Bundanoon.

Located in the Bundanoon Oval precinct, Council staff and contractors have commenced site preparation and demolition works.

Council’s Group Manager of Capital Projects Ned Tripkovic was confident the finished project would be warmly welcomed by the village’s youth.

“At the moment the kids are using some makeshift equipment on the existing basketball court so when completed this purpose-built skate park will be a huge improvement,” he said.

“On completion the park will cater to skaters of all abilities offering a greater choice of surfaces and tracks.”

The concept of the skate park began when local teenager Tyson Robb and his friends circulated a petition seeking improvements to the park’s current facilities. The final petition secured over 1500 signatures and overwhelming support from locals with the final design being voted by the community.

Further recreational facilities including a dual basketball/netball ring will also be installed on the adjacent basketball court.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $416,304 with construction anticipated to be completed in March 2020.

Trinity Skate Parks will undertake the specialised construction following final design from California Skate Parks.

“The youth of Bundanoon really drove this project and they deserve to be congratulated for their passion and dedication,” Mr Tripkovic added.

“Not only have they provided input throughout the whole process they’ve been an absolute delight to work with.”
