Wingecarribee Shire Councillors adopted a motion this week to commence community engagement on the Moss Vale Indoor Aquatic Centre project.

Chairman of the Indoor Aquatic Working Group, Councillor Larry Whipper said the announcement was a step closer to providing the Shire’s citizens with a year round covered swimming facility.

“This decision effectively gives Council the green light to begin talks with the community and seek their input into decisions that will affect the final design of the Moss Vale indoor Aquatic Centre.

“We will consequently begin discussions with the community on a range of decisions such as final concept design, operating days and hours, cost to the community, green initiatives and the inclusion of additional facilities such as a gym to name a few,” he said.

Community engagement activities will begin next week.

“We’ll also be going back to our existing stakeholder groups such as the swimming groups and be seeking their input into these decisions,” Councillor Whipper said.

“I encourage people interested in having a say on how the proposed Aquatic Centre should ultimately look to keep an eye out for further details in the coming weeks on Council’s webpage and in Council’s weekly Community Update newspaper page.”

Construction of the facility is expected to begin mid-2012.
