Bookings for Wingecarribee Shire Council’s 2018 Seniors Festival activities will open Monday 5 March.

Council’s Ageing and Disability Officer, Nicola Robson urged prospective attendees to view the program ahead of the booking opening.

“In total we’ve got over 40 events planned for the 12-day festival,” Ms Robson said.

“We have something to suit everybody from bus tours to concerts, exercise classes to art and writing workshops.”

Official events begin on Wednesday 4 April with an energy-saving workshop entitled ‘Demystifying your Energy’ and culminate on Sunday 15 April 2018 with a Family Puppet Show.

“Some of the excursions such as our Mystery Bus tour are extremely popular,” Ms Robson said.

“We recommend that anyone thinking of joining us, check out the program beforehand to see what events they may be interested in attending and book from Monday 5 March to secure their place.”

“The key message is to get in early to avoid disappointment.”

Returning for this year is the option of online bookings through Council’s website.

“We know more and more older people are confident computer users and this will allow them to browse events at their leisure and at a time that is convenient for them,” Ms Robson said.  “However we’re still more than happy to take bookings over the phone.”

With the 2018 theme being ‘Let’s do more together’, the aim of the festival is to promote inclusive communities and encourage seniors to remain active and engaged in the community.

“With so many activities available we really want our Shire’s seniors to get out, try some new things and perhaps meet some new friends in the process,” Ms Robson added.

Formerly known as Seniors Week, the NSW Seniors Festival has continued to grow each year since it began 60 years ago.

Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Seniors Festival is presented in conjunction with the NSW Department of Family and Community Services and will run from Wednesday 4 April until Sunday 15 April 2018.
