Better travel, less disruption

We heard your concerns about the closure of Old South Road for reconstruction coinciding with works at Station Street, and made arrangements to progress with the necessary improvements in a way that will reduce disruption.

A vital local distributor, the rehabilitation of Old South Road is important to our residents, so it’s a priority project for us. Council is moving quickly on the much needed upgrades, with measures in place to minimise inconvenience for local business owners and residents.

We will focus construction on the Northern end, between Aylmerton and Range Road, until Station Street is re-opened to two-way traffic, then progress to the section from Range Road to Merrigang Street.

Your patience and understanding is appreciated as we undertake what is going to be one of the Shire’s largest and most complex civic construction projects in recent years. Consistent with the commitment we’ve made to investing in a better road network, this upgrade is just the beginning of good things to come in 2023.

Weather permitting, we expect to complete these works by the end of February. Additional improvements to the station carpark and garden, and at Mittagong Creek Bridge on Merrigang Street, should be completed by March.

The community can look forward to improved traffic flow, a better travel experience on safer roads, and easier access between residential areas and town centres.
