Nominations for Wingecarribee Shire’s 2023 Australia Day Awards are now open.

Residents are invited to nominate their fellow citizens for both the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year awards.

Wingecarribee Shire’s Administrator Viv May said the awards were an opportunity to recognise the efforts of residents who contribute to making the Southern Highlands a special place to live.

“Wingecarribee Shire’s annual Australia Day Awards are one of the most prestigious honours which can be bestowed upon a member of our community,” he said.

“While many people across the Highlands work for the betterment of others with little or no fanfare, these awards are the perfect opportunity to applaud their selfless contributions.”

“Just being nominated is a great tribute and all nominees will be properly recognised for their wonderful work at our Australia Day service.”

Previous recipients have been nominated for their volunteerism, community work, compassion, generosity and bravery.

Mr May urged all residents to submit a nomination.

“Even if you think someone is well known for their achievements, it’s best not to assume they’ve already been nominated,” he said.  “I encourage all residents to give some thought as to a worthy recipient and submit a nomination of their own.”

The Young Citizen Award is open to people who are aged 25 years or younger.

All nominees must reside in the Wingecarribee Shire and nominations close on Sunday 4 December 2022.

The 2023 Wingecarribee Shire Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards will be held at Council’s Moss Vale Civic Centre from 10.00am on Thursday 26 January 2023.

Online nomination forms can be found on Council’s website at www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/Community/Community-Forms/Citizen-of-the-Year-Nomination-Form.
