Wingecarribee Public Libraries are inviting the Shire’s youth to join them as they celebrate this year’s Tulip Time celebrations with an underwater themed writing competition.

Held in conjunction with the Friends of Wingecarribee Libraries, the competition asks juniors to draw a picture or either write a poem or short story incorporating this year’s Tulip Time theme of Under the Sea.

“We think the competition is a wonderful opportunity for our Shire’s youngsters to get involved and excited about this year’s Tulip Time celebrations,” said Council’s Children’s and Youth Librarian Trudy Eccleston.

“We want the children to tell us of the adventures they’d have if Corbett Gardens were under the sea.”

“They can include their favourite under sea creatures in their drawings, poems or stories or make up their own unique characters,” Trudy said.  “How they approach the competition is totally up to them.”

The Under the Sea Writing Competition features three age categories:

  • 3 – 5 years Draw a picture
  • 6 – 8 years Write a poem or short story
  • 9 – 12 years Write a poem or short story

Poems can be any length whereas the short stories should be limited to 500 words.

A $100 book voucher is available for each age group winner.

Entry forms and details can be found online at www.library.wsc.nsw.gov.au.

Entries close 5pm Friday 15 September 2017.
