Wingecarribee Shire Council and the Welby Garden Centre are offering residents the chance to take home a piece of this year’s Tulip Time celebrations by purchasing a sample of the bulbs which featured in this year’s floral festival.

Chair of the Tulip Time Working Group, Councillor Graham McLaughlin said Council’s garden team had been busy digging up the bulbs since the conclusion of the festival.

“The Parks and Gardens team have done a great job in digging up the 100,000 plus bulbs!” he said. “From here the crew have carefully packed and transported the crates of bulbs to the Welby Garden Centre.”

“This year the Tulip Time Committee decided to break with tradition and instead of holding the annual community dig, we decided to donate the bulbs to the centre.”

The Welby Garden Centre is operated by Challenge Southern Highlands and provides vocational training and supported employment services to people with disabilities.

“The centre does a fabulous job assisting people living with a disability and we couldn’t think of a more worthwhile organisation to donate the bulbs to,” Councillor McLaughlin said.

Mixed bags of bulbs will be sold from the centre for just $10 per bag.

Apart from offering bulbs from this year’s record-breaking Tulip Time celebrations, the Welby Garden Centre also specialises in cold climate trees, shrubs and plants.

“On behalf of everyone involved in organising this year’s 54th Tulip Time celebrations – in particular the staff from Destination Southern Highlands, Council’s Parks and Garden team and the members of the Tulip Time Working Group – I’d like to thank all our visitors who supported the event,” Councillor McLaughlin said.

“And I encourage all garden enthusiasts to support the Welby Garden Centre by getting in early and buying a bag of this year’s beautiful bulbs.”

Residents wishing to purchase a bag of bulbs are encouraged to bring their own plastic bags.

Bulbs are available until sold out and cannot be pre-ordered.

The Welby Garden Centre is located on the Old Hume Highway in Welby.
