Temporary closure to stairway – Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve

22 January, 2019

Wingecarribee Shire Council wishes to advise that the stone stairway at Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve will be temporarily closed from 4 February 2019.

The temporary closure is to allow a specialised contractor to undertake stage one rehabilitation works including the repair and reseating of the existing steps and drainage works.

These works are being undertaken to preserve the heritage stairway and address erosion on site.

The stairway is located on the Heritage Quarries Circuit walk within the Reserve. Works will commence at the Cliff Drive entrance to the Reserve.

During the closure, temporary fencing and signage will be erected around the stairway. The lookout and picnic area off Oxley Drive will remain open.

The stairway will reopen following completion of works in early March 2019. It is anticipated that stage two of the works will commence in the 2019/20 financial year. All timeframes are subject to weather conditions.

Funding for the project has been made possible through a Council Heritage Grant, the Mount Gibraltar Landcare and Bushcare Volunteers, the Bowral branch of the Commonwealth Bank and The Southern Highlands Foundation.

Council thanks reserve users in advance for their cooperation and apologises for any temporary delays or inconvenience.

Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve is located on Oxley Drive in Mittagong.
