Wingecarribee Shire Council is seeking comment from the community after Councillors endorsed the public exhibition of the Lackey Park Regional Sporting Hub Concept Masterplan.

The concept masterplan details Council’s long-term vision to turn the existing park in Moss Vale into a dedicated multi-discipline sporting precinct.

Council’s Group Manager of Capital Projects, Ned Tripkovic said the Concept Masterplan illustrated how the site could become a major sporting hub for the Shire.

“Within this masterplan we’ve looked at how we can accommodate a variety of sports including rugby league, cricket and gymnastics,” he said.  “We’ve also allowed for possible future synergies with the adjacent Indoor Sports Hub project proposed by the Moss Vale and District Basketball Association.”

“It shows how we propose to transform the current and under-utilised field into a multi-purpose complex that will accommodate multiple rugby league fields, a junior and senior cricket pitch and ancillary training facilities.

“It includes the construction of a purpose-built grandstand, viewing mounds, formalised parking, gymnasium hall, clubhouse, change rooms, canteen, storage area, walking track, exercise stations and playground.”

Mr Tripkovic said a range of stakeholders had provided input into the design.

“This masterplan has been years in the making and during this time we’ve spoken to local representatives from Rugby League, Cricket, Netball, Gymnastics, Basketball, Soccer, Futsal and Indoor Hockey,” he said.

“The overwhelming sentiment is that should this concept proceed, Lackey Park would be able to attract a range of regional, state and national sporting events,” Mr Tripkovic added.  “This in turn would provide significant benefits to both Moss Vale and the greater Shire.”

Following endorsement by Council, comments will also be invited from the NSW Office of Sport, NSW Rugby League, Cricket NSW and Gymnastics NSW.

The Concept Masterplan can be viewed online at www.yoursaywingecarribee.com.au/lackey-park.

Feedback can be made online or in writing addressed to Wingecarribee Shire Council, PO Box 141 Moss Vale 2577 or alternatively by email at mail@wsc.nsw.gov.au.

The Lackey Park Regional Sporting Hub 2020 Concept Masterplan will be on exhibition for a period of 28 days with submissions and feedback to close at 4:30pm on Friday 31 July 2020.

Following the close of the exhibition period, a final Masterplan including public feedback will be submitted to Council for adoption.

Proposed upgrades will be undertaken subject to a successful grant application or as funding becomes available.
