Wingecarribee Shire Council is inviting residents to take part in an online survey to help prepare a draft Environment and Climate Change Strategy.

Council’s Coordinator Sustainability Services, Cecilia Kemp, said the survey was the first step in the preparation of the strategy.

“We want to work with our community, key stakeholders, environment groups, local businesses, and all levels of government to build on the environmental initiatives that we currently deliver,” she said.

“By doing this we’ll be able to better protect and enhance our natural environment and build on our community’s aspirations for a more sustainable Southern Highlands.”

The strategy will provide direction and clear priorities for protecting our local environment and responding to the complex challenges of climate change.

Within the online survey participants can share their ideas for creating a more sustainable Southern Highlands. Respondents can also identify important challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for our Shire.

“We’d love to get a broad cross-section of feedback,” Ms Kemp said. “As well as collaborating with leaders in sustainable living we’d like to hear from individuals of all ages.”

“The more information we receive the greater the strategy will align with the needs of our community.”

To take part in the survey and learn more visit www.yoursaywingecarribee.com.au/climate-change.

The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Residents who complete the online survey will be in the running to win one-of-three $50 gift cards.

The Environment and Climate Change survey closes on Monday 8 February 2021.

Information collected as part of the survey will form the initial framework of the strategy.  Additional community consultation and development will be undertaken in 2021 before a draft strategy is publicly exhibited and presented to Council for adoption.
