Help extend the Highlands short swimming season
Bowral Pool will become the second of the Shire’s pools to open this Saturday 5 November followed by Moss Vale Pool on Saturday 12 November and Bundanoon pool on 19 November.
All pools will only be open until March, highlighting our short swimming season and the need for year round indoor aquatic facilities in the Southern Highlands.
Wingecarribee Shire Council is currently asking the community to comment on a proposal to develop an Indoor Aquatic Centre on the Moss Vale swimming pool site.
Chairman of the Indoor Aquatic Working Group, Councillor Larry Whipper said Council had been grappling with issues around the location, cost, maintenance and development of indoor aquatic facilities for a number of years.
“We’ve developed a concept plan, a funding model and business plan and are now actively seeking community input into decisions that will affect the final design of the Moss Vale Indoor Aquatic Centre.
“The final concept design, operating days and hours, cost to the community, green initiatives and the inclusion of additional facilities such as a gym are all being discussed,” he said.
Moss Vale Swimming Pool will be specifically opened on Thursday 10 November for the community to view the current facility and consider how the proposed indoor aquatic facilities will look and feel. This will be a “drop-in” style of event from 4pm to 6pm, allowing people to view plans, discuss options and provide comment.
“I encourage people interested in having a say on how the proposed Aquatic Centre should ultimately look, to attend the Open House, take a look at all the publicly displayed documents, and to take part in our online forums,” said Councillor Whipper.

Mittagong, Moss Vale and Bowral pools all open from 6am weekdays and from 10am on weekends. Bundanoon pool opens from 6am on Mondays and Wednesdays, 2pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 10am on weekends. For further information call 4868 0888.
