With the warmer weather just around the corner, Wingecarribee Shire Council is urging locals to sign up and get ready for this year’s bush fire season.

Organised in conjunction with the Southern Highlands Rural Fire Service, the ‘Six Week Get Ready Challenge’ sees recipients receive weekly emails with tips to help prepare their families and homes against bush fires.

“The cooler weather is the perfect time to start planning and preparing your home and family for the summer bush fire period,” said Council’s Bushland Project Officer Belinda Rowe.

“The Challenge sets out a series of simple tasks spread over six weeks that everyone can undertake to help protect their home and family,” Belinda said.

Some of the tips include clearing leaves and debris from gutters, keeping your grass mown and making sure you’ve got sturdy hoses in case of emergency.

“The Six Week Challenge also looks at ways you can prepare and plan by involving your family, neighbours and community,” Belinda added.  “This includes preparing a Bush Fire Survival Plan well in advance of any emergency.”

The Six Week Get Ready Challenge starts Thursday 25 August 2016.
