On Tuesday the NSW State and Australian Federal Governments declared the Wingecarribee Shire a natural disaster area.

As a result Council is offering local residents free disposal of any garden waste that directly resulted from the storm at Council’s Resource Recovery Centre.

Trees, plants and shrubs damaged or destroyed in the weekend’s floodwaters will all be accepted.

“Given the amount of storm damage which occurred over the weekend, it’s the least we can do to assist in the clean-up,” said Council’s Deputy General Manager Operations, Finance and Risk, Mr Barry Paull.

The fee-free offer is effective immediately up until close of business Monday 13 June 2016.

“It’s important to remember that Council’s free offer only applies to green waste that has accumulated as a result of the storm damage,” Mr Paull added.  “It does not include waste from usual yard maintenance such as grass clippings.”

The free offer is not available to commercial operators.

Residents wishing to take advantage of the offer must bring proof of identification when dropping off the debris in order to verify local residency.

Council’s Resource Recovery Centre is located at 177 Berrima Road, Moss Vale and is open 7.30am to 4.30pm seven days a week.

Normally closed public holidays, the Resource Recovery Centre will however be open this Monday 13 June from 8.00am to 4.00pm for residents wishing to take advantage of the offer over the long weekend.
