How secure is your child’s restraint?

Every year, many children are injured – or worse – in car crashes. Many of these incidents could be prevented by the use of a correctly fitted child restraint.

Council’s Road Safety Officer, Melanie Lausz, is encouraging parents to ensure their child seats are fitted correctly at Council’s FREE Child Restraint Checking Day on Saturday 2 June at the Highlands Market Place.

“It was alarming to see the number of drivers who had incorrectly fitted child restraints or the wrong type of restraint for their child’s size in their cars,” Ms Lausz said. “As drivers we are responsible for the safety of all our passengers.”

The Child Restraint Checking Day is being held following a similar event held in March.

Wingecarribee Shire Council will be conducting the FREE Child Restraint Checking Day with the support of the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), Highlands Market Place and Highlands Pit Lane of Mittagong.

Inspections will be carried out by an RMS authorised fitter fromHighlands Pit Lane and will identify and adjust any unsafe fittings. Participants will only be charged the cost of any materials required to render the restraint safe.

“Parents having used the service will testify the time taken to have the check is worth it for peace of mind.”

The FREE Child Restraint Checking Day will take place at Highlands Market Place Old Hume Highway Mittagong in the underground car park on Saturday 2 June 2012 from 9am to 12.30pm.

Each check will take approximately 15 minutes.
