Balmoral fire damage

Wingecarribee Shire Council is to offer a free one-off green and mixed waste collection for northern village’s residents affected by the recent bush fire.

Bush fire affected residents of Balmoral, Yerrinbool, Hill Top, Alpine, Aylmerton and Buxton (Wingecarribee Shire LGA) can have any mixed waste that would normally be emptied into their red lid garbage bins (non putrescibles waste) – excluding asbestos – that has been damaged by the bush fires collected free of charge.

The one-off collection is also extended to any green waste northern villages residents may have collected as a result of undertaking bush fire protection maintenance.

Residents of the Shire’s northern villages wishing to have any fire damaged material or green waste collected must phone Council’s Customer Centre on phone 4868 0888 prior to book in the collection service.

The collection format is similar to that used by Council for its regular bi-annual collection and that was used for the 2011 windstorm.

As per normal collections, disposed materials should be able to be lifted by no more than two men. Should the waste contain any large bulky fire damaged items – such as garden sheds – residents are asked to advise Council’s Customer Service staff when booking for the collection so alternate arrangements can be made.

The green waste collection has been scheduled for Tuesday the 26 November whilst the non putrescibles waste will be collected on the following day, Wednesday 27 November.

Bookings for bush fire affected customers must be made by close of business Friday 22 November.

Residents with an insurance claim are advised to contact their insurance provider.

“It’s the least we can do for our bush fire affected residents doing it tough at the moment,” Mayor Arkwright said.
