Wingecarribee Shire Council is set to undertake a feasibility study for a Regional Art Gallery at the former Mittagong Bowling Club site based on community feedback.

The decision to undertake the feasibility study came as a result of submissions received from the public during the original concept display period.

Chair of the Arts and Culture Board, Councillor Juliet Arkwright said it was pleasing to see the concept progress to the next stage.

“Based on the strong in principle support we received from the community, we’re now in a position to look at the concept in more detail,” she said.

282 submissions were received in support of developing the Alexandra Square site as a Regional Art Gallery. 21 submissions were received in objection to the proposal.

Funding for the feasibility study will come from a combination of the Arts and Culture Board budget and Council’s 2011/12 budget.

The findings from the feasibility study will be reported to

Council by the end of August 2011.

“Importantly, everyone who left their details and made submissions during the original concept display period will be advised of the outcome of this more detailed study,” said Councillor Arkwright.
