In a bid to provide more inclusive engagement with the Highlands community, Wingecarribee Shire Council is calling on residents to provide comment on two draft Community Engagement documents currently on exhibition.

Council’s ‘refreshed’ Community Engagement Strategy and Community Engagement Policy have both placed on public exhibition following endorsement by Council.

Council’s Manager Governance and Corporate Performance, Danielle Lidgard, said the revised documents had been reviewed to improve how Council engages with locals.

“An overriding sentiment in the wake of the Public Inquiry and dismissal of our councillors was that residents expect better from Council,” Ms Lidgard said.

“One of the key ways Council can do this is by improving how we engage and communicate with ratepayers and the community”.

“Both our refreshed Community Engagement Strategy and Community Engagement Policy detail how we propose to undertake future engagement activities that are both genuine and respectful.”

“Community engagement lies at the heart of constructive local government,” Ms Lidgard added.  “We recognise that for our community to be active participants in shaping our Shire’s future we have to be open and honest when we consult and engage on projects that affect them.”

Council’s Administrator Viv May PSM endorsed the public exhibition of both the draft Community Engagement Strategy and Community Engagement Policy at the Council Meeting of Wednesday 14 December 2022.

Both draft documents will be on exhibition for an extended period of 42 days starting Friday 16 December 2022.

To view a copy of the refreshed draft  Community Engagement Strategy and Community Engagement Policy, visit Council’s online Consultation Hub at yoursaywingecarribee.com.au or view in person at Council’s Moss Vale Civic Centre or branch libraries.

All feedback and submissions must be received by 4.30 pm on Friday 27 January 2023.

Following the close of the exhibition period, a final report considering feedback will be presented to Council.
