Wingecarribee Shire Council is seeking feedback from residents on its draft Communications and Community Engagement strategies which went on exhibition on Monday 16 June 2014.

Council’s Acting General Manager Ann Prendergast said the dual strategies were designed to provide Council with clear directives on future communications and community engagement goals.

“These strategies are intended to provide us with the framework for greater and more effective communication and consultation with our residents,” she said.

“They are designed to be used as the basis for developing a range of future procedures that will ultimately detail how our residents will receive timely and accurate information about Council services,” Ms Prendergast said.

“Future procedures could deal with any number of communications initiatives such as how we advertise for tenders or developments or they may detail how to engage with online customers.

“The strategies will also be used as the foundation for developing greater opportunities for our residents to become involved in Council projects affecting them.”

The Communications strategy and Community Engagementstrategy and policy highlight opportunities for improved consistency and greater community involvement by detailing key objectives, messages and responsibilities.

“With the advent of social media, Council felt it important to re-visit how we communicated and interacted with our residents to ensure we reach and involve as many people as possible.”
